The old mare let out a held breath as she FINALLY made it to the meeting spot. Her stomach felt like it would burst at any moment. She was too old to be carrying foals. His foals. The whole reason she was at this spot several hours early.
Sariel.
Sekhmet made herself comfortable beneath the trees as she watched the sun slowly set. He'd probably be here early too. If she was him she'd be here early. She was here early, mostly so she couldn't back out of this meeting along with some forceful encouragements from her older sons. Still she was so nervous for this meeting. She had...Ghosted him for so long. He was such a kind soul he deserved better then her cowardliness. She was just so scared.
Yet the time they spent together, though brief, was still magical. She felt so much in such a short time. She felt guilty. Someone like her? Her fear over took her and she ran. It had taken her so long to get the courage to ask one of her sons to visit Sariel and ask to meet him. She didn't want to know how Sariel reacted, just that he said yes. So with the lump of nerves in her throat and a belly fully of foals, she waited. It did give her time to think.
The mare could feel the slight chill in the air as time marched forward. The seasons were turning slowly and changing. She needed to change. She needed to tell him everything. Just...Everything. Beyond the foals. He would see that straight away she was a blimp by this point. She needed to tell him how she felt, about him.
How the thought of even seeing him one last time made her happy, even if he left her.
He should. She was horrible.
She was still grateful for this chance.WC: 317

Sariel was nervous, the encounter he had with a familiar, yet unknown stallion had left him shaken, searching in his soul for an answer, even though there had only ever been the one response to give. Yes he would meet with Sekhmet, of course he would. The stallion, whom had been one of the sons Sekhmet had told him about, would have seen the hope in his face, the honest heartbreak he had been through this whole time but the thought of seeing Sekhmet again, written all over his features, regardless of the small wings over his eyes. Sariel had searched for days, that turned into weeks, when Sekhmet had first gone missing. He had been all over, wherever his wings could carry him, until he could search no more, exhausted, he had barely eaten, worry that some shifter had carried her away killing his appetite. As the days went on, something inside himself had died, he had returned to his brother, Anush, and HIS mate a broken stallion, not knowing what had happened to Sekhmet weighing very heavily on his soul. He had been thankful to Anush and Cadence for staying behind where he had last seen Sekhmet, in case she had turned up but it hurt, seeing his brother's happiness so Sariel had turned inward on himself. By the time he reached the meeting place it was clear the effect his heartbreak had on his body, he was thin, his fur dull, the hair on his tail, messy, his wings, missing feathers and scruffy. He had arrived early but in his exhausted, heartbroken state, he had fallen asleep against a tree. It wasn't until the sun began to set, when a ray of sun flashed across his face through the treetops, that he woke, eyes blinking hard as he spotted HER.... nearby but with her back to him, laying in another beam of evening sun. His breath caught in his throat, a loud noise in the quiet of the oncoming evening. "Sekhmet?" the word was more of a question, dragged out of a cracked, dry throat, he wasn't sure if he was dreaming, he had more than a few during her time missing and even more nightmares than that. His voice rang out and she stopped breathing. Her mouth suddenly dried up. The world seemed to stop. He was here. She knew he'd be here but...It didn't feel real. She was just in a dream. She took a moment before she replied. "Sariel." She responded to his own voice with her soft own.
She was slow to get up and look to him. He looked as bad as she felt. Her breath hitched as her eyes instantly filled with tears. She was already feeling so guilty but seeming him like this? She hurt him so so much...That breath she was holding escaped as a loud sob. Her heart was breaking just looking at him. Though she'd probably look as bad as he did if it wasn't for her sons.
"Sariel...I'm sorry. I'm so so sorry. This is all my fault." The flood gates opened and they weren't closing any time soon. "I'm sorry...I got scared....I didn't want to get hurt again so I pushed you away even if I didn't want to....I've been alone and hurt for so long...I'm so sorry..." Her form was shaking with tears. "Please just...Hate me...It will be better for everyone...I'm sorry." She didn't deserve him.

Sariel held himself together, even when she said his name, a word barely above a whisper from her maw. He just stared for a few long moments, taking in the sight of her in front of him, still not daring to believe she was really there.
Then she sobbed, one raw, hitched breath that sent a pain shooting through his heart, he ran to her, even as she apologised, crying, not that it mattered, tears streaked his face now too beneath the wings over his eyes. His multiple long black wings enveloped her, even as his forelegs grabbed around her.
"Shhhhh, fear is nothing to be ashamed of, i should not have revealed my feelings" he rasped. "i knew i should have waited until you were ready, this is my fault as much as anything" he paused for a moment before holding her at 'arms length' with his wings. "Do not EVER say that again" harsh but then, more gentle, "I could never hate you, i went half crazy with worry, i thought a shifter had gotten you or something worse..... but i could never, ever hate you" He pulled her chin up with one of his wings. "It would not be easier for anyone, hate is an emotion that one cannot feel for you, does it look like i am better without you?" he asked her, honestly, openly before fear touched his features once more.
"Are you here.... will you stay?" he whispered

She couldn't stop the tears as her eyes met his with the help of his guiding wings. Are you here and will you stay. Both had one answer.
"Yes. Of course. I don't deserve you...But I'm so grateful you will have me." She couldn't help but sob again. "It was your words, your feelings that made me think of my own and how...How I felt the same...I know you would never hurt me but I was just so scared. I've been so so hurt for a long time. So alone...But when I'm with you those feelings melt away. I feel wanted. I feel loved. I just..."
Well...She had explained herself enough. He got the message.
"Thank you...For waiting for me...For everything...For loving me and wanting to be loved by me. It's emotions I have not felt in many many years." She sniffled before nuzzling under Sariel's chin. "I want this. I want this change in my life. I want to be the mare you deserve. Not this coward that I have been." She couldn't help but let out a small laugh. "Besides, I think my sons were going to tie me up and drag me to you if I didn't confess. They are good boys, taking my old lady s**t for too long."
That left one big elephant in the room to bring up.
"I need to...Quickly nurse you back to health...If you are to be chasing your foals around once they come...Very soon as it is..."

He gently wiped her tears, even as they continued to fall as he spoke.
"You deserve everything" he said, smiling now. "I told you then and i tell you again, your past does not scare me as it does you, i will always choose you" he murmured. Heart pounding as she kept on speaking.
"I would give you the world if you but asked, the sun and the moon, all the stars in the sky. I would rather die than let you feel an ounce of sorrow because of me" he said to her, pulling her closer to him, enveloping her in his wings.
"You are not a coward, feeling fear is not a cowardly act, if someone says they are not afraid, they are lying, i was afraid to admit my own feelings" he paused for a moment "You are who i deserve, you do not need to change a thing about yourself for me, i love you no less, i am just grateful you are alive and you are here, and you wish to love me as i love you"
He laughed "I am also grateful to your sons, though i confess it would have been amusing to see that" To him, her sons were automatically family, whom she loved, he loved. It was easy for him.
Then... his world seemed to stop "f....foals?" he stammered, moving his wings to get a better look at her, how had he missed her swollen belly? He laughed again, an excited, nervous laugh. "I do believe it is YOUR health we must focus on is it not?" he told her, pulling her even closer once again. "Im going to be a father" he stated, his voice calm, betraying his pounding heart, something she was almost certainly feeling against his chest right now. "I am grateful you are home my love" he whispered, for her ears only.
